Obituary: Derek Keith Reust, 31, was born May 6, 1980 in Ponca City, OK to Dennis Keith Reust and Susan (Marrs) Reust Perry. He passed away on June 29, 2011 at Muskogee Regional Hospital, Muskogee, OK.
Derek grew up in Ponca City, OK; Houston, TX; Tulsa, OK; and Tahlequah, OK. He was a 1999 graduate of Tahlequah High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Northeastern State University in 2003. While attending NSU, Derek was active in the Baptist Collegiate Ministry as an officer and a member of the Praise Team. He was a member and officer of the Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity. As an adult, he lived in Tahlequah, and in Stillwater, OK.
In preparation for becoming a minister, he attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and worked with the youth program at Tahlequah Northside Baptist Church.
He had a talent for language, studying Greek, Spanish, and Russian, and he loved to travel. Derek was always happy, and had strength in the face of life’s challenges.
Derek is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Earl and Helen Marrs; and paternal grandfather Joel Reust.
He is survived by his mother, Susan Perry of the home; father Dennis Reust of Stillwater, OK; brother, Michael M. Reust of Austin, TX; nephew Quinn Reust of Welcome, MD; niece Adele Reust of Oklahoma City, OK; his paternal grandmother Naomi (Toepfer) Reust Tidwell of Bethany, OK; in addition to many other relatives, friends, and loved ones.
Funeral services were at 10:30 AM, Friday, July 1, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Tahlequah. Services were conducted by Brother Buddy Hunt and Bobby Lipscomb. Pallbearers were Brent Reust, Greg Reust,Tony Reust and Stephen Marrs. Honorary pallbearers were Melissa Rae (Marrs) Bartosovsky, Sarah Marrs, Melissa (Reust) Meek, and Michael Reust.
Interment was at 2:00 PM in Floral Haven Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma under the care of Green Country Funeral Home with Bobby Lipscomb officiating. Online condolences may be left at www.tahlequahfuneral.com.
