The towns of Bethlehem and Rochester were both incorporated into the neighboring town of Navarre. Now there is a Bethlehem Township. Jacob's descendants pronounce their family name similar to the German pronunciation (Royst). One family story is that when Christian Reust immigrated from Steffisburg, Switzerland in 1833, he listed a relative in Ohio on his documentation. Could Jacob have been that relative?
As of July, 2003, Dennis Reust's data base named "Reust Indiana" contains the family of one John Reust (1849-1892) and his wife (Anna or Annie) and their children who were buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Huntington, IN. I wonder whether John is Jacob's son. They were listed in the 1880 Huntington census by the name "Renst". In a phone conversation 29 Jul 2003, Donald Bushee said the family of John and Anna Reust were not related to Jacob, and that family moved and/or died out of Huntington, and nobody knows where they went. The 1860 census for Dallas Twp, Huntington Co., IN clears up some of the relationship issues. It shows Jacob (49) and Philipina (46) as the parents of Jacob (19) and Henry (13) and John (11).
As of December, 2006 I (Dennis Reust) have not succeeded in connecting this family tree to others. Peter Reust of Bonstetten Switzerland Informed me that there are two lines of Reusts originating in Switzerland. Within recorded history starting about 1500, the two lines do not connect. The Reusts of Steffisburg were protestant, and the Reusts of Glarus were Catholic. During a time when the protestants were in political power and trying to convert or eliminate the Catholics, the Reusts of Glarus were scattered. The Reusts of Indiana are Catholic. It leads to speculation that they may descend from the Reusts of Glarus.
